Online Surveys – How Long Does it Take To Make Money?
Online surveys are a really great way to get some free cash.
But, as is the case with any money making strategy, your most important question is probably….”HOW SOON WILL I MAKE MONEY?”
This is a fair question and before getting involved in any money making strategy this is one of the first things I ask.
However, with online surveys (and maybe any other money making strategy) there are actually two questions you should be asking.
Question 1 – “How Soon Will I Make Money?”
Question 2 – “How Soon Will I Get Paid?”
Yes, there is a big difference between the two, especially when it comes to making money with online surveys. Let’s look at both questions in more detail.
Question 1 – “How Soon Will I Make Money With Online Surveys?”

You actually make money pretty fast taking online surveys. But you can make money even faster if you complete online offers for cash. Check out my post on how to get free cash with online surveys to get more familiar with what I mean by completing the offers.
Ok, let’s get back to the question at hand. With the online survey you can make money in as little as 10 minutes to as much as 20 minutes to an hour depending on the particular survey. You won’t become a millionare taking online surveys but it is a great way to get some spending money for groeceries, going out, etc.
To make money with the online survey, you just log on to the survey site (I currently use CASHCRATE to make money with online surveys and offers) with your username and password, you will see a list of available surveys and offers, and in some cases, you may see some games and contests available as well.
Each offer or survey will show you the dollar amount (and estimated time to completion) that you will be paid to you for completing that survey. I think this is great because some offers and surveys pay more than others and this allows you to pick the best ones. BEST = PAYING THE MOST MONEY.
As soon as you complete an offer or survey you will have to click a “done” or “complete” button to be taken back to the main page. Clicking the “done” button is what lets the survey site know that you completed the entire survey or offer. This is how you get the credit to your account. This is basically how you will make money.
Note: If you don’t receive confirmation of completing the survey it is very possible that you won’t get credit for it. So make sure you look for this before ending your session.
Question 2 – “How Soon Will I Get Paid For Taking Online Surveys?”
This is the second part of the process, now that you have made some money with the survey, you will want to get paid right? There are two things to understand within this topic.
1) Almost all survey sites have a payment threshold
– I currently use cashcrate and their payment threshold is $25. Once you have earned $25 or more from the website, you will be issued a check for that amount on the 15th of the following month.

If you have not made more than the threshold, your earnings will add up each month until you hit the payment threshold. For Example, I made $26 with Cashcrate at the end of December 2011, so my check was sent out January 15th 2012.
This (monthly payment) is pretty common for most survey sites so as long as you are meeting the threshold every month you can expect to receive payments every month.
I must admit, it was really cool to open my envelope from cashcrate and see my check for $26.39 knowing it cost me NOTHING to get it..
FREE CASH IS THE WAY TO GO!!!
UPDATE: Some survey sites allow you to get paid via paypal and with these sites the payments can be weekly. I will post a review when I find some GOOD sites that do this. In the mean time, stick to Cashcrate.
2) A lot of sites reward you with points and not cash.
– This means instead of earning cash for a survey you might earn 1000 points to be redeemed for something on that site. A digital camera might be 50,000 points.
Points to Remember with online surveys and offers
Be sure you understand the payment type of each survey site you find and make sure it is in cash. Also, make sure the survey site has threshold limits that are realistic and that you can reach each month.
A payment threshold limit of $25 is good, but a limit of $10 would be even better.

I was wondering, realistically, how much can a person make in a month doing this, I am interested but I need more than $25 a month.

Ty, it is possible to make a lot more than $25 but I just did the minimum that I had to in order to get paid and prove that this works. Through cashcrate I was able to find other survey sites that promise a higher payout ($20 or more) for each of their surveys and offers. Cashcrate also has a wall where members post pictures of their checks. I have seen some figures in the “several hundred dollars” range and even saw a couple members that made over $1,000 in one month.
You won’t be able to retire on taking surveys and offers but you can get some quick, free, and fun cash. Best way to be successful is to sign up for several sites at once.
Check out my review on cashcrate where I talk about a member that made as much as $2117 in one month CashCrate Review
You’ve made an amazing website here Dale. Really good work. Interesting articles and I can see how much you really have pure intentions of helping people. Well done!
I just started doing paid online surveys and to date, I haven’t receive any payment yet. Another problem with us is that, there are only few surveys available here in our country. I guess paid online surveys are great and easy to do but it’s not good enough for you to earn a living. Therefore, it must just be one of the make money online things that you do.

@Cham – Was this a site that pays cash (as opposed to points) for surveys? If so, you are you above the payment threshold? Lastly, does your account and balance show that a check was issued? My account balance went to $0 after my check had been issued. Still, there are some shady sites out there that might not pay you. You should also be sure to sign up with reputable survey sites.
It is for this reason that I did the minimum to get paid when I signed up with Cashcrate. Now that I know this stuff really works I might put some more time into it. I am actually signed up for a few other survey sites so check back often as I review them and recommend the best ones.
I don’t know too much about online surveys but thanks for the information.
